When starting Ubuntu 22.04 LTS with mate-desktop 1.26.0 all the applications started, but they had no border and title bars. There was no mouse cursor I could move, and alt-tab'ing did not work either.

dconf:

[org/mate/desktop/session/required-components]
windowmanager='marco-no-composite'

/var/log/syslog:

Sep 27 08:20:42 mogiedyne mate-session[1496]: WARNING: Unable to find provider 'marco-no-composite' of required component 'windowmanager'
Sep 27 08:20:42 mogiedyne mate-session[1496]: WARNING: Unable to find provider '' of required component 'dock'

Solution: Install mate-tweak, which had been removed earlier. mate-tweak provides the "marco-no-composite" window manager. Restart lightdm, and window borders will be there. Then configure "Marco (built-in: Xpresent)" as window manager in mate-tweak.
